Children with additional needs are always welcomed into St Lawrence Nursery. We work together with parents, carers and specialist support services to ensure all children are fully included and can benefit from the early education and care that we offer.

As a recognised ‘Preferred Provider’ working with Shropshire Council we seek to deliver high quality inclusive early education.

All our staff in nursery are trained in child development and early language development. They are experienced in working with children who have complex needs and regularly make use of visual aids and sign language across the setting.

A qualified Early Years SENCo is available to support staff to deliver tailored interventions, monitor and track the progress in child development.

Children with EHCP plans are supported in line with their individual needs and funding is used effectively to make ‘reasonable adjustments’ to the provision, layout and staffing.

All children at St Lawrence Nursery are assessed for wellbeing, engagement, early language, physical, social and emotional development so that any additional needs can be identified early, and play-based support and interventions are then put in place within the nursery environment. Any concerns are always discussed with parents and carers so that the child can be supported consistently across home and nursery. If a referral to specialist services is necessary, parents and carers will be informed.

If you have concerns regarding your child’s individual needs please come and talk to a member of the nursery team, or book an appointment with the SENCo. We can provide information, practical advice and explain early referral processes.
